UKAEA helps support Harwell Church Tower Appeal

St Matthew’s Church is a Grade 1 listed building dating from 1190 and sits in the small community village of Harwell in the South Oxfordshire countryside. The main tower constructed around 1200 survives today only because of the care that it has been given by the Harwell community over the centuries. From the top of the tower, on a clear day, you can see in the distance the spires of the City of Oxford.

UKAEA Winfrith sponsor youth cricket

UKAEA Winfrith (on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority) have recently sponsored the youth section of Dorchester Cricket Club which has enabled them to purchase a bowling machine.

Harwell’s 2000th can milestone

On 2nd May 2007 the Vault Store team at Harwell celebrated the recovery and treatment of the 2000th can of intermediate level waste through the Head End Cells at the Solid Waste Plant.

Oxfordshire Federation of Women’s Institute

The Oxfordshire Federation of Women’s Institute recently visited Harwell to learn about the plans for the development of the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus and to see progress with decommissioning the site that will help make these a reality.  The group toured the site and visited DIDO, a former Material Testing Reactor, and Harwell’s Active Handling Facility.

Successful return for Pooh Sticks

Organisers for the World of Pooh Sticks Championship once again paid host to hundreds of visitors from across the globe to watch and take part in the competition made famous by Winnie-the-Pooh, thanks to help from UKAEA Harwell.

UKAEA Winfrith site end state exhibition

An exhibition will be presented to the local community in early February about various proposals for the end state of the site. This exhibition is part of a consultation about the condition and the state of land at UKAEA-Winfrith following decommissioning. It will give the local community a chance to have their say in how they consider the land should be left at the end of decommissioning.
