Harwell-Chilton Campus Local Stakeholder Group

July 16, 2009

The Harwell-Chilton Campus Local Stakeholder Group was held on Thursday 16th July 2009 at 18:30 at the Health Protection Agency, Fermi Avenue. Prior to the meeting group members toured the Harwell site, visiting B462 and DIDO. The members found the tours informative, providing a good opportunity to learn more about the decommissioning achievements and future decommissioning plans. Terry Joslin, LSG Chair commented “members expressed their deeper understanding of the work continuing on the remaining legacy waste at Harwell - Europe's first and most mature nuclear site."

At the meeting Ken Heider gave an update on licensed site matters whilst Andrew Davies from the NDA commented on the NDA’s business plan and long term strategy for Harwell. Regulatory reports were given by Phil Heaton from the Environmental Agency and newly appointed NII Inspectorate David Hanratty, who reported on de-licensing activities and proposed changes to the status of HSE’s Nuclear Directorate. This was followed by presentations from Duncan Rogers of Goodmans on the development of the Harwell Campus followed by an up-date from Alistair McDermott on the work of the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
