RSRL moves into the Private Sector with Babcock

November 2, 2009

Ownership of Research Sites Restoration Limited has moved from the public sector to the private sector.

This follows the successful completion at the weekend of the sale of RSRL’s parent body, UKAEA Limited, to Babcock International Group PLC.

This has brought to an end the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s presence at Harwell and Winfrith after more than 60 years and completes the privatisation of its workforce at the site.

Research Sites Restoration Ltd was formed in February 2009 from the Harwell and Winfrith Sites of the UK Atomic Energy Authority as part of a commercial restructuring. This reorganisation resulted in a group of new companies under the ownership of UKAEA Ltd and earlier this year the UK Government placed UKAEA Ltd on the market. Its sale to Babcock International Group PLC was completed on 31 October.

The sale means that Research Sites Restoration Ltd has moved with UKAEA Ltd from ownership by the public sector to the private sector. Senior management positions in RSRL continue to be filled by secondees from UKAEA Ltd, supported by colleagues from one of its business partners CH2MHILL.

Alan Neal, Managing Director of Research Sites Restoration Ltd, said: “Our vision remains the same, to be the first site licence company to restore its sites, whilst offering value for money, spending our customer’s money wisely and delivering work in a cost effective and safe manner”.
