Winfrith Counter Terrorism Exercise “Cuckoo”
November 12, 2009
Exercise Cuckoo was an annual site exercise to review the Counter Terrorism Plan and tests all on-site aspects of the company CT Plan including evacuation, containment and communications. Such exercises are aimed specifically at exercising the function, effectiveness and interactions involved between the various operational teams working in the field. Dorset Constabulary also took part in the exercise; the exercise was based on the introduction of a vehicle carrying explosives onto the Winfrith Licensed Site.
Dave Clarke - appointed Senior Site Inspector for the Office for Civil Nuclear Security stated that the exercise met the regulators requirements and he had noted some good practices.
Jerry Matthews the Site Security Manager appreciated the work performed by the Commercial Security Guard Service supported by Winfrith Emergency Services, External Emergency Services and the appointed building wardens throughout the site. It proved effective plans were in place and also identified opportunities for improvement.
