WEATHER CONDITIONS - HARWELL

Heavy overnight snowfalls are forecast for tonight, Tuesday 5th January, for the Harwell and Winfrith sites.

At present the Harwell and Winfrith sites remain open for business as usual. RSRL is monitoring the situation and will review the position at 6am tomorrow morning, providing further information on the condition of the site via the Telephone Announcing System (0800 169 6306) and RSRL website (home page).

In the expectation of heavy snowfalls, the following information is provided to RSRL staff at Harwell:

  • Unless advised otherwise via the Telephone Announcing System, RSRL personnel should make all reasonable efforts to attend for work as normal, providing that it is safe to do so having regard for the local conditions in their home area and en route to Harwell.
     
  • In order to allow the appropriate allocation of personnel the North Gate and Library Gate will be closed; staff access will be through the Main Gate and Fermi Gate only (the restriction on staff access through Main Gate during Inmuster and will be lifted).
     
  • The following routes and car parks around the site will cleared as a priority for use from Inmuster; other routes and car parks will be cleared throughout the day as conditions permit:
     
  • Rutherford Avenue Pluto Road Seventeenth Street
  • Thomson Avenue Meashill Way Twentieth Street
  • Eighth Street Becquerel Avenue Ninth Street
  • Dido Road Tenth Street
  • Thirteenth Street Fourteenth Street
  • Downs Way Fifteenth Street (including the 404 goods yard)
     
  • Main Gate Reception Car Park
  • Reservoir Car Park (behind B329)
  • New Eastern Entrance Car Park
  • Celestial Car Park (behind B151)
  • Thomson Avenue East Car Park
  • 404 and 421 Car Parks (behind B404)
  • Golden Mile Car Park (opposite B462)
  • Helios Car Park (by B418)
  • Moon Rock and Apollo Car Parks (behind B551)
  • Triangle Car Park
     
  • All business travel between the two sites has been suspended for the day; any important meetings should be conducted via confertel or video conference.
     
  • A separate guidance notice will be issued to ATO Holders by SSHED on actions for their respective facilities.
     
  • RSRL will continue to monitor the situation throughout Wednesday and will provide further updates as necessary through the Property Matters notices or Telephone Announcing System.

Recipients are asked to pass this message on to any colleagues who may not have access to a PC. Building Managers are asked to place copies of this Property Matters on notice boards and in Tea Rooms.
