Youngsters helped with lifestyle choices
January 18, 2010
Pupils at Wantage CE Primary School have received one of the most valuable lessons in life – thanks to Research Sites Restoration Ltd (RSRL). The school has played host to the Life Education Centres mobile classroom which teaches youngsters the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in a scheme partly funded by a donation from RSRL’s local Harwell site.
Using hi-tech mobile classrooms Life Education Centres deliver fun, memorable, progressive and age-appropriate health & drug prevention education programmes to over 16,000 children in Oxfordshire.
Pupils from the age of 4 – 11 are taught about how their bodies work and what they need to do to stay healthy. Older pupils are taught about the effects and risks associated with the use of drugs, including medicines, alcohol (including
binge drinking), smoking and obesity. The sessions also provide children with skills to deal with peer pressure and bullying.
Alan Neal, Managing Director for Research Sites Restoration Ltd, said ‘Children today are facing ever- increasing pressures and temptations to damage their health and futures. The programs run by Life Education aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and self confidence to make informed healthy decisions for themselves and we are delighted to be able to support our local children with this very worthwhile educational project’.
Head Teacher, Mr Phil Hibbs said ‘The children have found the mobile classroom a fun and lively environment, which takes them out of their normal setting, whilst fitting in with the the national curriculum’.
Wantage primary schools to also benefit from a donation from RSRL include: Grove CE,, Stockham, St James CE, St Amand’s and The Hendred’s
