The building assessment works at SGHWR have started and the various supporting contracts required to facilitate the works are being constructed. Work on the remaining Dragon tanks is expected to start in the first week of October allowing successful completion this financial year.
Elsewhere the first of the 600 bags of exempt waste have been loaded, indicating the start of an exempt waste campaign which should run smoothly into the start of this year’s VLLW disposal campaign.
Post operational clean-out of WETP and EAST is progressing in preparation for final decommissioning and demolition. Decontamination of the WETP cell line is nearing completion. Process pipework is being removed, access to the process tanks has been made and the residual sandy material has been recovered and encapsulated ready for LLW disposal. Cutting access penetrations into the sludge tanks within EAST has commenced which will permit man access to be made to carry out final decontamination of the tanks.
