Harwell Level 1 Site Emergency Exercise
October 18, 2010
On Thursday 14th October, RSRL Harwell undertook its annual Level 1 Site Emergency Exercise.
The exercise was based upon an electrical fault developing during routine operations within a major facility on the RSRL Harwell site, which resulted in a small fire and gave rise to three slightly injured casualties.
The verdict of our HSE site regulators, the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, was that the exercise was an adequate demonstration of RSRL Harwell’s site emergency organisation and response.
Tony Tierney, Emergency Planning Manager for RSRL Harwell commented: “That it was a very pleasing outcome for all the members of the exercise planning and facility and site emergency teams, to see that their hard work resulted in an exercise pass.”
Kathleen Stevenson, RSRL Director for Safety and Environment expressed her thanks to all those involved, both in the planning and the day itself. The demonstration exercise is a very important event for the site and it is great to see all the hard work coming to fruition and resulting in success.
