During October the NDA Lead Site Programme Manager, Stephen Barker visited RSRL for familiarisation visit.

The visit began at Winfrith where Stephen was joined by Babcock Operations Director, Tony Moore. After a welcome and overview from Alan Neal and Malcolm Barents, the visitors were greeted by Judith Priddle and given a tour of SGHWR and WACM. At the next stop Dave Morris showed the visitors around the Dragon Reactor and Mark Davey gave an overview of the work completed to date at the Treated Radwaste Store. The visit was completed with a visit to see the ongoing work at the External Active Sludge Tanks and a presentation from Andy Staples and Steve Withers on programme mitigation.

The following day Stephen Barker travelled to Harwell where he was joined by NDA Site Programme Manager, David Rushton. The two visitors toured the site as well as a number of facilities. In B462 they witnessed can recovery by RM2 and Gary Preston and Andy Staples gave a presentation on can recovery metrics and mitigation whilst Gary Reid gave an overview of B220.29 facility’s operations and waste processing. To complete the visit the party travelled to the liquid Effluent Treatment Plant (LETP) where Robert Thickett gave an update on the programme of works continuing at the LETP on the reduction of legacy contaminated waste.

After the visits, Paul Knight commented: "It was nice to be able to show Stephen and David the excellent progress that has, and continues to be made by RSRL staff on the NDA's task of decommissioning both Harwell and Winfrith. Having built up a good working relationship with Malcolm Barents who has now retired, I look forward to establishing similar relationships with Stephen and David in the future."
