Job Done - BoSS Drains Decommissioning

April 18, 2011

After several years of work by the BoSS Drains decommissioning team the work to survey, wash and grout the trade drains system over the whole Harwell site has been completed.

Project Manager, Dave Wilkins, said "the trade drains system used for low active effluents had grown as the site developed and was in an uncertain state of construction and repair. By the end of the project we had to decommission 12,000 metres of drain, although thanks to the washing method used the majority of the drain could be left in the ground as a clean passive structure, thereby avoiding large scale excavation."

The photo shows the last section of pipe being filled with grout. Work to remove some contaminated sections will be completed over the next year.
