RSRL receives a visit from campus organisations
June 1, 2011
For a second year running RSRL welcomed staff from the Science Technology and Facilities Council (STFC) and Diamond Light Source.
The visit began with a guided tour of the licensed site. Alec Inns, LETP Senior Project Manager described the research that has taken place in different buildings and highlighted some of the challenges facing RSRL before the land can be redeveloped as part of the Campus. Afterwards the visitors were given the opportunity to visit Dido where Barry Reynolds, Reactor Manager, gave them an insight and presentation into the world of reactors and the work undertaken at Harwell in the build up of civil nuclear energy.
Vicky Stowell, STFC Communications said “I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make this tour possible. Our staff found it really interesting to learn about the history of Harwell and the nuclear research that was done there. After seeing the site through the fence for so many years, it was very impressive to actually see inside one of the decommissioned reactors and to see some of the artefacts that have been collected there.”
