B521 Demolition

June 20, 2011

On 13th June, work started on the final phase of demolition work at Building 521. By November 2011, the building and it's base slab will have been removed.

The building originally housed the Reactor Research Division and later became the headquarters of UKAEA.

Preliminary work has already been carried out in preparation for the demolition works, including isolation of all the services as well as asbestos and health physics surveys. The final part of the project will include the soft strip, asbestos removal under controlled conditions followed by the demolition of the above ground structure and removal of the base slab.
