RSRL host a 'lead and learn' event
July 26, 2011
RSRL hosted a Magnox team "lead and learn" event at Harwell to exchange information on drains decommissioning methods. A team from Trawsfynydd gave a presentation on the drains decommissioning challenges they face and RSRL presented on our recent experiences decommissioning 12km of drain at Harwell, our current work and future plans.
A demonstration of the usefulness of the IMAGES database for data processing of drains survey information was given by Angela Bartlett. The Magnox team were shown current works on site where RSRL are pulling the inner pipe of the New Main Active Drain and using the Winfrith developed DRover drain crawler probe system, as well as a site tour of the Old Main Active Drain excavation project.
Paul Atyeo noted that "it was reassuring to see that the Magnox team and the RSRL team had come to similar conclusions on technical and commercial approaches for this type of work", Jason Carter, the Ponds and Misc Blds Deplant and Demolition Manager for the Trawsfynydd site commented, "the visit was informative and will be of great assistance as we plan similiar projects."
