The final days of B521

October 5, 2011

As reported previously, demolition work on Building 521 started in June this year. The final part of the above-ground structure was removed by the demolition contractor, KDC, on 1 September. As is often the case with demolition projects, the demolition phase seems to pass very quickly, although this represents the culmination of almost a year of preparation work. The fact that the project has run safely to time and schedule is a credit to the team of people from across RSRL and our contractors that have cooperated to deliver the work.

Work is now well underway to remove the underground structures, including parts of the old trade waste drain system. Once sampling and Groundhog surveys have been completed, the site will then be re-instated with recycled aggregate and topsoil, with the work due to be completed by November this year.
