SGHWR update

February 4, 2013

The new team at the Steam Generating Heavy Water Reactor (SGHWR) is gradually coming together, demonstrating and achieving some early successes.

The decommissioning of the Cable Mezzanine has been completed early, together with the decommissioning of the old Active Workshops.

An internal waste team is in the process of being constructed; this fledgling team has already processed their first 100 drums of waste. A significant contract has been awarded to AMEC for engineering support in reviewing the scheme design.

Looking ahead, the team is preparing to move into the pond clean up area and more significantly the Primary Containment, which will take several years to decommission.
