Our people

Decommissioning a nuclear facility is a complex business. However, that is only part of what we do. We also need to safely manage our nuclear licensed sites, comply with the relevant regulations and deliver on commitments to our staff and the local communities. To do all these things, RSRL is organised into focused teams supported by management.

Programme, Closure, Waste and Technical departments plan, implement and undertake works directly associated with meeting the aim of decommissioning the research facilities at Harwell and Winfrith.

In support of their tasks, the Safety, Security and Health and Environment department, along with Commercial and Support Services, ensure that sufficient staff and resources are provided, and that safety is organised and assured.

RSRL’s programme of works covers many years. This requires the careful planning of workforce development to ensure the skills essential to the UK’s nuclear clean-up are available. To this end, we work closely with the rest of the nuclear industry and through national initiatives to create opportunities for existing and future staff.
